| Umtshibi Orphans- Makwa and Kennedy | |||||||||||||||||||||||
July 2010- When a business deal with an international zoo fell through, ZPWMA asked WHWT to assist in the release of various species of wildlife that had been captured. Unfortunately, the two elephant that had been captured were too young to be released on their own, and lacked the social structure of a herd needed to protect them in the wild. WHWT has been asked to be custodians of these two elephant "Makwa" and "Kennedy" until such a time as they can be returned back into the wild. More

| February 2009 - The Wild Horizons Wildlife Trust is very happy to have been able to assist the National Parks and Wildlife Authority in rescuing a two week old baby buffalo yesterday (10 February). The Buffalo was abandoned during the night near a local lodge. After giving the poor guy a little milk to build up his strength we let him rest during the heat of the day. Later in the afternoon we returned and moved the buffalo to the new Wildlife Orphanage. More | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Orphaned Warthog Piglets |

November 2008 - Two tiny warthog piglets were recently found wandering around the golf course of Elephant Hills Resort, just outside the town of Victoria Falls. The piglets were but a few days old, with their mother nowhere to be seen. Temperatures skyrocket at this time of year, and the piglets are unable to go very long without milk. The disarming duo stole Doreen Posselt’s heart. This Wild Horizons Wildlife Trust volunteer has taken care of many orphaned animals before, and is now rearing the piglets. The little hogs, who initially suffered from a bacterial infection, needed to be fed every two hours. Now almost a month old, the infection has cleared up, and the two baby boars are looking robust and strong. As the warthogs grow older they will be released in the Wild Horizons Wildlife Orphanage and Sanctuary. |

Chizi |

On Saturday July 12, 2008 our precious baby elephant Chizi stopped breathing at 3am. We would like to thank all of you that have helped us try our very best to raise Chizi for the past 18 months. She was truly extraordinary and touched each of our lives in very special ways. We will all miss her dearly and never forget the memories she imprinted in our minds. On the p.m. of 13th July a wild bull elephant arrived at The Elephant camp accompanied by a tiny, out-of-condition baby. The bull interacted with our elephant for a short while before wandering back into the bush leaving us with the baby to care for! More |
